the corresponding store(s) get(s) shut down after the next generation releases. And leaving out the PC, which is basically the gaming system with the highest backward compatibility of all doesn't help neither.

You point being what? ... So you rather it didn't exist? Can I just be positive and happy about games being available on various platforms? It doesn't prevent you from playing whatever on PC. You do you!
Sure you can, and it's nice to see old games rereleased where- and whenever. My point, as I said, is just that tying games to (currently) just two transitory digital stores and/or systems is nothing I would call "spearheading preservation" or even "preservation" at all.
Well I do! Because no one is doing this as well as they do: making games legally available to the general public and on modern mass distributed platforms. And while digital stores aren't forever, you've at least been given the option to own these titles digitally on your console.
