We’ve recently finished having our heat pump installed. Now being a few weeks in does anybody have questions about the install process and home owner experience?

Very interested to hear how far you went in terms of increasing insulation, heat emitter sizes, and controlling ventilation (e.g. closing leaks, MVHR or not) - and as a result what COP you’re achieving
Hi Phil, we were fairly lucky to have a house with cavity wall insulation and double glazing. The loft insulation is around 300mm. I worked with my dad to upgrade some of the main pipe work to 22mm and 15mm to the rads. No significant effort on closing leaks and no MVHR (1/2)
Octopus who did the install upgraded 6of8 radiators, most upgrades no issue, the one large rad in the kitchen is a very large vertical and not particularly nice so might look for other options. I haven’t got enough data for robust SCOP numbers yet as unfortunately Daikin don’t show SCOP upfront(2/2)
Part of the reason I ask is that heat loss calculations suggest to me that we need underfloor heating and maybe MVHR, so I’m just trying to get a feel for how others are getting on with/without.
My dad lives in Slovakia and has DIY installed MVHR and it really does make a positive difference. I’m considering trying to DIY one just for the other benefits like consistently less humidity and fresher air. Drying clothes for example tends to take only a single night especially in winter
Since pumps have an efficiency curve that depends on both outside temperature and load, I suspect that a manufacturer’s stated COP wouldn’t say all that much, but I’d love to hear how it looks once you have some data.
So the way Octopus initially installed the compensation curve was quite pessimistic on the heat loss front so I’ve been gradually moving the curve down to improve efficiency. The Daikin kit does provide energy use and heat output numbers but I’m not positive how accurate it’ll be.
