I'm baffled how they can claim that the PBS is an unfair trading practice when, I assume, Australia still pays full price to the company we are buying it from. Like, it's not as if Australia gets a 'discount' from the manufacturers in order to sell it cheaper, is it?

That IS actually the point. The Australian Govt DOES negotiate to get drugs cheaper to allow them into the country & they go on the PBS. (Many countries do this)
That is good for all of us. The US Pharmaceutical companies want to screw for more money.
Biden was trying to do this in the US too.

Yes, correct, that IS the point of the PBS & other similar schemes. Negotiated lower prices in large qty contracts. The criminality of US Big Pharma is that they still make a profit if e.g. Oz buys ventolin for $5, yet they still sell to US citizens for $35 (previously in the $200s) .... 2/

They pay HUGE prices for stuff that is available in other countries much cheaper.
