I remember, during the Irish same-sex marriage referendum, complaining how dehumanising the Irish Times was. A friend suggested I was exaggerating. I said, replace ‘gay’ with ‘Jewish’ & read this supposedly neutral article. They did. They were horrified.

Now, every time you read an article about trans ppl in a legacy paper [from the NYT, or London or Irish Times], switch ‘trans’ for ‘Jewish’.

Then ask yourself, why is a pogrom of persecution, & dehumanisation, not the key story in your paper?

Most of, if not all, the transphobia now being enacted as public policy in the US [& UK/Ireland] is being driven by the far right anti-LGBTQ Heritage Foundation. They want to criminalise, & wipe out, all trans & non-binary people & then all LGBTQ people.

Every far right regime needs an enemy.

Excellent thread. I live in a state that ppl move to to get care for their kids. Even here, drs are turning away new patients bc of uncertainty after the govt’s attacks. We need countries to step up and offer VISAs to trans folks & their families. Where, though? AUS? CAN?

Given how belligerent the Biden regime was towards those countries which ‘crossed’ them, I don’t think you can realistically expect any Western govt to upset the current regime. I think you might have more luck with S American countries. Being a refugee is horrific & to be avoided at all cost.
