Let me tell you an Irish story. Not so long ago, a middle class blond woman, respected for her investigative reportage in journalism began to make a name for herself in the Irish media.

She spoke in cultivated tones & cried out against the injustices heaped upon victims. Her public image was one of the doughty Irish woman refusing to be cowed by a male-dominated inertia & disdain for ordinary people.
She overstepped the mark in one of her investigations & dependant upon who you believed harassed a senior law enforcers family or stood up for the victims of Ireland’s sluggish justice system.
Here was an angel of justice, standing firm for the little people. She was also extremely religious & wore her ‘faith’ on her sleeve. She began to publish her own newspaper, run her own YouTube & network with fellow-minded voices.
She started filming her views. Here a rainbow flag flying at the state broadcaster was the subject of her ire. Other topics such as human rights for LGBTQ ppl & whether the NZ mass stabbing was done by ‘actors’. She saw conspiracies everywhere.
Her extreme views began to attract attention from Irish human rights activists who reported her various social media channels to moderators for their breach of those channels T&C. She was quickly banned from each one. She caused massive offence to vulnerable people.
We have a similar woman in power here in Alberta. She is now our premier and pushing her seemingly Trumpian views with the aid of our wealthy energy elite. We are still in the middle of this story.
We have to learn how to do this. We have been complacent as those we elected seemed ethical and working for the best of our province, regardless of party. This is not what is happening now. Now it is all about power and destruction. Our ed system, once top notch, and health care - both losing daily
I always enjoy a good Irish story.
After reading this one I wish I could tell any American story in the same way this one ended - but we do have ‘free speech’. It turns out that it’s not free from the outrageous malice of this gesture even though we fought against what it represents in a war! Sigh
Well, to be frank, where are the protests like ours? The only people I have seen doing anything, from US civic society, are the trans & NB community. I’ve seen a few token events outside govt buildings. Where’s the hundreds & thousands marching thru cities?
Good question. I have to tell you that we are in fact protesting - but it’s not being televised. There’s not yet an effort to an organize as we urgently need it is really taking too long I would agree to get moving. Americans are in denial of the obvious. We are heading to terrible times. But here:
That’s more like it. Interesting to see that the persecution & criminalisation of trans ppl is not a focus. They’re the first group of Americans that the Heritage Foundation wants to ‘wipe out’. But good to see a general strike. It all seems very slow from an Irish perspective.
And we know what they are doing - this was done before in Germany - blame the minorities is an old strategy in the same playbook. It didn’t work then it won’t work again!
I’m an ally and I stand in the frontline with my trans friends.
You are right trans people are not a focus but they are embedded in what is becoming a resistance movement.
You will have to agree that they’re simply scapegoating these minorities and using them to distract from the big stuff they are doing. It hits home deeply with me to protect those minorities…
Why are people so apathetic? There are 300m+ US ppl, where are the million + protest marches in every major city? The Vietnam War protests & the ActUp ones should be the templates!
In my state we are getting small crowds in protests but I’m seeing people getting somewhat more organized - it’s a matter of time and it will grow - I agree.
But we better start acting fast President Musk is 2 steps ahead of us in everything it looks like ⏰🚨🚩

It’s heating up, is it enough? Not sure.
