Also according to Jeff Grubb Sony was so "Shell Shocked" by Concord that it made them re-evaluate all of their first party games which is what led to them cancel Bend & Bluepoint's games. If you're developing a gaas, there now a lot of friction & a low chance your game will release.

Not even close. Have a look at the most played each month, it’s all live service. The single player games get played in the month they release, but rarely break top 3, then they fall off. If the sp games were as popular as some people want them to be, why do they typ only sell around 10m copies

Concord did not cost Sony $400m. It likely didn’t even cost $150m. See the thing that nobody seems to be checking is with Sony’s very public financial reports. And nowhere over the last 3 years has there been any evidence of a massive spend like that. In fact they made $908m last quarter

Bluepoint had only done remakes before and Sony didn’t force its studios to do anything… the studios pitch Sony, not the other way around. Bend wanted to do a multiplayer game. And Nothing has been taken away from you. Sony has released more single player games compared to the 1st 4 years of PS4

Acknowledging my own bias in big bold letters, but the decision to scrap Factions feels like a wound that just won’t heal. The TLOU is massive for Sony. It’s only gotten bigger with the HBO series. Of all the IPs it could have pulled off a live service with, TLOU was probably the one.

Sony’s multiplatform approach to leveraging its IP runs the risk of over exposure, but the TLOU, specifically, makes a stronger case than most. Two acclaimed video games, and an outstanding long-form drama. I would have loved to spend time in a TLOU live service universe.
