So the privilege against self-incrimination exists in NZ, allowing anyone to refuse to answer any questions and specifically to refuse to answer police questions that might end up with them being charged with an offence....(1/2)

That's fairly standard for most cases. Offenders nearly always deny offending and that's both why evidence like medical records or other testimony matters. It's also one of the reasons why it's harder to prove sexual assault which may rely on arguments about consent. Collecting evidence is crucial.

Court might not be the right path. For me, this is more about whether someone who knew beating his kids was illegal, decided it was the best course of action should be working in NZ Police. It feels like that should be an easy, no, they should not.

Two issues - when do police proceed with prosecution (all people should be treated similarly when it comes to charges. Convictions and sentences may differ)?
- when does conduct mean employment is reviewed or ends?

Possible failures in both here. Employment is more complex than criminal charges

A new inexperienced police officer may be able to learn to do better. A senior or long serving police officer, especially one who hits his teenage children for misbehaving at church, would be less likely to be able to change. He may have difficulty enforcing laws against Destiny Church too.

Barely a teenager & under 10s! Premeditated assault! Officer A admitted he’d used a belt on 2 occasions, striking their buttocks & upper legs. Once when his 2 daughters (one a young teenager the other under 10 yrs old) as they’d been fighting, including in church, & earlier on his son, also under 10
