2/8 - All the feelings here: Heartbroken, dismayed, appalled, furious, but mostly, disappointed - and sadly, unsurprised - that the ACSA has “halted,” in their words, the JAE’s upcoming Palestine issue, themed edited by an incredible group of scholars and backed unanimously by the JAE board.

3/8 - They did this without seeing a single piece of scholarship from it; scholarship that is currently in rigorous (double-blind) peer-review by an outstanding volunteer editorial board + external reviewers, all from our schools of architecture, landscape and design.

4/8 - The epistemic violence endured by theme editors in particular - who continue to show incredible strength, poise + grace - & our board is staggering. The resultant, breezy unaware dismissal of the labor of contributors (many precarious, + working under challenging circumstances) is atrocious

5/8 - So is is the contract termination of our incredibly principled Executive Editor, and all on a Friday afternoon news drop as we sail into the weekend, for some of us, into Ramadan, and after many of you have paid annual conference fees - for a event titled… wait for it… REPAIR.

6/8 - The description of that conference, incidentally and now ironically, cites the work of the JAE - and our issue “Pedagogies for a Broken World,” In the ACSA call to “meaningfully address the past and present harms of the practice, culture and pedagogy of architecture.”

7/8 - ACSA member schools were notified by e-mails to faculty councilors re: the ACSA decision; a courtesy not extended to the JAE board. From that e-mail, questions can be sent to ACSA pres. Cathi Ho Schar ([email protected]) and the ACSA Exec, Director, Mike Monti ([email protected]).
