A nice read Steve. Balanced. I agree with lots you say here, though out of those comparisons, it is only the FM2N (x2) I own and use. Like you, I have little experience of other brands of SLR apart from 80's Pentax (and I still have my old stuff, occasionally used).
Very solid, this line of Nikon.

I absolutely love the FM3a. I've owned 2 in the past, and regret letting them go more than anything. If memory serves, the only downside was that they can shoot more than 37 frames, so it always overfills a regular negative binder sleeve!

12 exposure rolls are as easy as 35 exp, but yes there's more waste with shorter rolls for sure.
