Yes, totally. I think a big part of that overconfidence comes from people deeply misunderstanding how limited their own conscious experience is. A lot of people treat “holding uncertainty” like it’s just not knowing a number, e.g., I don’t know how many marbles are in this jar, but I can guess.

You could also have quantifiable target outcomes and tweak the parameters of the code within boundaries regionally to find the optimal maximum through monte carlo analysis. Stuff like fines and taxes have optimums that can only be derived empirically.

While this works well for accounting fraud it is harder to operate this in all the edge cases. This just pushes the uncertainty/ power to the person inputting what happened into the system. Example of this is crypto oracle failures.

The courts would still have a role in edge cases. But because there would be some covered edge cases in the program, the intent of the law would be more clear (e.g. like inline comments in program code). Seems like it could be better than what we have now; interpreting words written centuries ago…
