"Stairway to Heaven" was not released as a single because Peter Green, the band's manager, knew it was a hit and wanted people to buy Led Zeppelin IV instead of just two songs.
No Doubt was a failing rock band, Gwen Stefani's brother was the drummer and he quit, a week later she had a terrible break up with the group's bass player Tony Kanal...she went into her room at her mom's house and wrote the entire album Tragic Kingdom and the rest is 'herstory'
Usher wanted no part of 'Yeah' - he hated it, thought it was a stupid song and refused to do it...LA Reid told him to get his MF ass in the studio and BANG!
Marvin Gaye had written 'What's Goin On' but had no music, he was chillin with a bass player and he started strummin the bassline for the song
A Lithuanian kankles (like a dulcimer) made from a linden tree felled on the day your loved one dies has a most mournful tone. It is said the wood retains the grief and love you feel.
In the film "In the Heat of the Night," there's a scene where a character was supposed to danced to "Little Red Riding Hood" by Sam the Sham & the Pharaos.
But after the scene was shot, there was a dispute over the rights.
So Quincy Jones made a song called "Foul Owl on the Prowl" to replace it.
The banjo is an African instrument. Proto-jazz is all over the continent of Africa wherever any of our enslaved ancestors hailed from. Jazz after proto-jazz is an invention of purely BLACK making. That "Black" is all Negro enslaved people & descendants from Canada to Argentina.
Can anyone verify what my mom once told me? Marvin Gaye owed his wife royalties from the next record he made so he did Sexual Healing thinking it would flop, but it didn’t.
Blue Man Group's backing band had an electric zither player who only wanted to play with them for 6 months, so after he left, Phil Stanton (one of the original 3 Blue Men) and a friend built their own zither! It has 86 strings and 8 guitar pickups.
Me. The older I get, the more I realize how much I don't know and how much there is to learn, while being made more aware of how much I do and to stand confidently in that and move from their. Wisdom and Humility is a Beautiful combination.
As a struggling single mother on the edge of breaking down, my car broke down in the middle of a very busy road near an intersection. Three very kind people helped me get into the median and then to the mechanics.
Recorded my one and only gig. Played bass w/an actor in a power trio, several friends showed up, but only my brother-from-another-mother recorded it. My own mom wouldn't come, regretted it once she found out my bandmate.
Went to the dr and they said they’d see me the next day …I told my friend and he was scared and told them to MAKE them see me NOW …I said I was already down the block and he said to turn around and demand to be seen …I did and they saw me …I didn’t take it seriously but my friend did
I needed $100, and when I asked my friend for it not only did they loan it to me, but said were upset that I didn't come to them sooner, that I even stressed myself about it. It made me really look into some deep issues that I have with asking for help, while being so adamant about helping others.
I needed to sell 7 more candy bars to participate in an essay writing contest in high school - the essay was written, I was dressed up for the banquet but I still had 7 candy bars. A random man at the bus stop asked how much, I said $1 and he handed me a ten. Oh yeah, I won the contest 😁
I was in the checkout line back before self-checkout lanes existed. A stranger said, “Young man?” I turned. “Thank you.” I was puzzled because I had never seen this person before in my Black life. I replied, “I’m sorry, for what?” The stranger said, “For just being a good young man.”
In the final days of your life, it is plesent know that strangers, who may have never even directly benefited from you, can still honestly say that you have been a good person.
Having a meal with leftovers delivered to my house the night I came home from the hospital with a brand new baby in tow. Not having to worry about what to cook/ eat while getting situated was amazing. It's now my go-to 'little thing' for new mamma's!
Bought me my favorite record album from childhood as well as digital download. it was the sweetest thing I think anyone had ever done for me. Made me cry. I had mentioned in passing that it was my favorite record album as a child & he hunted it down & bought it for me. It’s long out of production
Two weeks into college my dad died unexpectedly and while we all were scattered around the country still settling into college, a friend came home just to be around in case I needed someone. Maybe that’s not a little thing now that I think of it.
The games people play. If everyone would just be their authentic selves at the beginning, then you wouldn't get into the "they'll hate me if they found out (X) about me!" thing that implodes most new relationship.
The initial 'gettin to know you' phase - women seem to have these imaginary fences they put and exclude certain men from dating them - "I would never date an Aquarius" WTF does my birthday hafta do with who I am??? I
Not seeing the true version of someone until you've already fallen for them. Putting their "best foot forward" often = pretending to be someone/ something they're not.
Slow TF down, take your time, enjoy your youth and plan for your future - if you put things in place now, you won't be workin your ass off the rest of your life

You have ADHD and probably are autistic. There's nothing wrong with you. Find your people and learn how to manage these things while holding on to who you are. You're not broken, just different. Sometimes in a glorious way.
Old people are full of regrets so I'm trying to live in the Now and have none so I have no advice for my teenage self bc such advice only reinforces regrets
He is not the one. He's interested in you at 17 because he thinks he can manipulate you. You are not ugly. It's ok to like someone who likes you.
You are enough.
Let him go. Let him go. Let him go.
Your body is good. Don't smoke. Don't get married until you are at least 27. Go to Texas or an East Coast school. Go to university a year older. Major in applied statistics.
