I'm afraid this is not the case here. ZSU was clearly surprised by the "pipeline operation". No encirclement, but otherwise well prepared defense in Mala Lokna largely collapsed, lots of equipment lost because Russians also destroyed bridges on approach to Sudzha.

On 10 March general Syrskii announced "reinforcements" for the group in Kursk oblast, says "no risk of encirclement", not a single mention of organised retreat anywhere.
