I think Elmo is trying to stop us from deactivating our accounts. I, also, was told my passwords were incorrect even though I’d written them down. So, I just turned my account profiles into ads for Bluesky & deleted the app.
I tried deactivating and was told it was the wrong password. So I logged out and somehow logged back in with the same password without issue, tried deactivating again, and was again told “wrong password”.
Just think of any of your common passwords or gmail it's under. I hope this helps. Mine was linked to my Gmail, and I updated my password then deactivated it. I forgot mines to. A phone number can also help. 😊
My husband is trying to deactivate his right now and they are making it hard. He can’t do it on the app at all and just going in circles on the desktop. But I’m sure it’s just a coincidence…
Actually, I wouldn’t recommend deactivating your account because X is going to sell to advertisers based on user counts. They’ll see high user counts and charge a bunch but, as people flee and leave open active accounts and never interact with those ads, the companies will see low pull through and
if the price is high on X and the pull through low… it may mean higher revenue for X now but the velocity of advertisers leaving due to it being a poor investment for the cost will be greater later and it’ll be way more difficult to get those advertisers back.
Like, if X just becomes a place in the advertising firm world where cash just gets burned, ad firms will stop suggesting it as a buy because that hurts their bottom line too.
Same. I had three different accounts on X, and deleted all three. Elon can go f himself, as far as I'm concerned. I've just had it with corrupt people.

I want to close it just to add to the closed account stats.
But I really like the idea of the remaining advertisers wasting money on my ghost ship of an account.
