This is another good point which has also come up when I breathlessly rant about this in meetings: the audience ‘expects this now.’ I come back always to video games though. People thought this re graphics. Yet indie/2D/Stylised has boomed. What’s TV’s answer to that? I think it’s ’British.’

This thread explains the "cheap is unaffordable" paradox, which chimes with one of my frequent regrets: that the market no longer has any tolerance for anything that doesn't aspire to the cinematic. I miss the sort of "pretend you're in a theatre" productions that could be done on a shoestring.
