Then it’s just the matter of removing the turf, and adding a layer of fresh compost as a mulch.

I do this every year. I use spray paint and a string line to get my nice circle. Find it easier than attaching a sting to the tool and give me freedom of movement.

Also, have been loving your feed the past few weeks!

Makes sense for sure, takes some time to mow/wash off. Luckily I am my own boss (🤫 don't tell my wife I said that) in the yard.

Would this help with an old apple tree that annually gets attacked by black spots on leaves&apples + pests or is that a sign the tree should be removed?

It wouldn’t do any harm. A healthy tree, with a good supply of water and nutrients, is much stronger and can naturally fight off diseases.
