I've seen a few videos from self driving taxi occupants. One was attacked by a bunch of men with rocks. The other was of a man stuck inside a vehicle that just kept making left turns in a parking lot. In all situations, the vehicle stopped then from getting out. Not something I'd use willingly.

Lyft's been over promising robotaxis as long as Tesla, eg in 2016 predicting "autonomous" was ~year away and "fully autonomous" would predominate by 2022.

Lyft's 2019 IPO prospectus mentioned "autonomous" 109 times. It was the best rationale for how they'd be profitable.

The elasticity of demand for a taxi service is fairly high. A little bad press would kill the service like a fatal crash or the owner of the company attempting to coup on the government.

I'm not sure why you think Waymo has any sort of lead? Both systems have their plusses and minuses. Looking at the bigger picture FSD has some huge advantages.

Ok, maybe I'm just a Luddite, but those taxis drive up and down Priest Dr. in Tempe all day long and it is *creepy* not seeing a driver in the front seat. Nor passengers. I do not get warm fuzzies from this.
