IMO, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is much like Star Trek: TNG-Season 1's weak with the occasional OK episode/moment, S2 is better, even good but not quite great. Seasons 3-6 of Buffy are really good IMO, the best run of the series, then Season 7 is a mixed bag with an excellent finale. Hope you like it!

Yeah, Prophecy Girl is basically THE big episode of that first season. There’s brilliant scenes here and there but the entire season hinges on the finale. Keep watching, it is worth it and season 2 is a much more amazing season. Sometimes I am surprised they got a 2nd season but it was WB.

I would also say The Pack and is probably my next favourite. I am also a fan of Welcome to the Hellmouth and The Harvest though. I’d say if Prophecy Girl doesn’t hook you then the rest of the series may not.

Agreed on those episodes being pretty good Season 1 entries. School Hard & Halloween in early Season 2 are where the show starts picking up, IMO, Spike & Drusilla's arrival really changes the show for the better (won't say more in case any new fans read this).

Season 2 picks up fast w good eps. Right from When She Was Bad for me. It is much better than season 1 from the start and all they way through. Still, for me, even “bad” Buffy eps are good tv ;)

Keep going. I agree that S1 doesn't have any truly great episodes until Prophesy Girl, the finale. Wait until School Hard in S2: when Spike and Dru show up is when Btvs really starts foe me.
