I have been suggesting this too, as part of my (now daily) rants about how the standard of driving on Irish roads has deteriorated so much in recent years.

I don't doubt it. Previously, such concerns have been dismissed as bad driving habits learned during lockdowns, or people forgetting how to drive properly because of lockdowns, but we're pretty far removed from lockdowns now and driver behaviour continues to deteriorate.

Drivers have definitely gotten worse in the past year or so. I depend on my car and have been extra careful myself lately. I don’t feel as confident on the road as I used to, though I’ve always been a careful driver.

Ah yes, but there is no data on the cause of fatal/serious collisions in Ireland. Just "shpeed kills!" beaten into everyone. You have 4-5 different agencies collecting various data points but nobody putting it all together.
