The "F.U.R.R.I.E.S ACT" bill from Stan Gerdes (R-Smithville) would prohibit "non-human behavior" in Texas schools, including but not limited to:

-Litterboxes
-Tails
-"Leashes, collars, other accessories designed for pets"
-"Barking, meowing, hissing, or other animal noises"
-"licking oneself"

I have never, NEVER, seen any kid come to school with a dog collar/leash. If you made an animal noise, you were either the bully or bullied. If you brought a litterbox, you eating it for lunch. WHO IS THIS FOR!?

Of all the things I can be mad about with politics in the US these days, the fact that someone made a joke years ago about the furry kids using litterboxes at school and MORE THAN ONE elected official took it seriously is the worst and I have deeply seated hatred for these people.

The REAL reason for this, unfortunately, is a very common republican tactic where they flood the court/senate/house/parliament/whatever with bullshit legislation that ties up resources so time and energy is wasted on it so they can slip the things that actually want through later.

Its not pearl clutching, its both ye olde bait and distraction tactics. If they focus on the furries, they can heighten the paranoia (anyone can be a furry!) and the flames while conveniently distracting everyone from the taxes, international messes and so on.
