Finally got around to reading it this morning. Like a punch in the gut. Of course we knew all this, or told ourselves we did. But to have it laid out so masterfully, starkly, matter-of-factly. I want him to have a house at the beach goddammit! I want everyone to!
Wanted to highlight this line from the GoFundMe pitch for fellow creatives: "He told me that when he became homeless, he was determined to write his way out." Seeing the funds go up as his article circulates gives me hope that he's just done that.
I saw a lot of myself in that piece. I've never been homeless, but for a couple of years was as close as you can get without living in your car. And it's grim in ways that are difficult to explain. When you're at the "I think we need to pawn our wedding rings" point, things are bad.
