Duct tape works until it doesn’t. The squad was a patchwork knitted together by the genius that is pep but at a certain point the holes become too big. Pep trusted Zinch/Delph/Jesus but they haven’t been replaced with squad players who actually get minutes. Need to build a 25 man squad again.

They rode the wave with this group of players, and probably rightly so, given its recent success. However, they’ve collectively lost half a yard whether it be through age or appetite and that inactivity over the last 4/5 windows to not really upset the apple cart is biting them in the arse.

The best young players have been sold, the ones left aren’t good enough or trusted so we’re left with an ageing side. Huge two windows for Viana (they need him in now!) with all those you listed required. Fortunately given recent windows we’ve got a big budget we can spend - we’ll need every penny!!

Do you think they have any academy players that can step into any of those roles? I just don't see a way to get that many players of City level quality and staying within budget/rules limits. Wirtz alone will be probably like 110m euros.

That's fair. It's also really unfortunate that McAtee was sooo poor tonight. I think there's a quality player there, but it's hard to see the opportunity being there for him.
