Why? 68% of the world's internet using population uses Chrome, not even including Edge or other Chromium based browsers. Nearly every website optimizes for Chrome because of that saturation. I don't like Google, but the own so much of the market even Microsoft switched out their engine to use them.

Have you tried debugging it? YouTube is by far the most sluggish website and it feels like it's intended as a punishment for adblocking. Weird.

Funny thing is I can have a YouTube tab open for days inside Firefox and it doesn't do this

Yup, it seems to be a specific problem with Chromium since it happens in both Chrome and Edge all the same. Which makes this a really funny bug seeing as Google owns both the Chrome browser and YouTube the website so they could fix it on either side and haven't for some odd reason.

Microsoft has also been suffering from the same issues. I watched some if the ignite demos and was like "WTF Microsoft". Something tells me I'll be switching to Linux in the next ~5 years with Microsoft all out investing into intrusive technologies, subscription OS features & invasion of privacy.

Seems to be a chromium issue rather than a YouTube one, either way Google is at fault.

Happened to me multiple times when watching Tech Talk. I normally use Firefox, but I use Chrome for YouTube cause it seems to work better, until this bug started happening. I'm on Linux, so it's not Windows-specific. It starts lagging for a moment, my laptop fans spin up, and then it crashes.

Also, it specifically happens with livestreams only, and it's YouTube specific, as I'm on Twitch all the time, and this never happens there. I might watch the next Tech Talk on Firefox and see what happens.
