First, you just had a baby so totally don't push yourself. But if you want to write - does giving yourself permission to write anything that intrigue you (on any of your 4 ideas) help? Even if it's just jotting down a paragraph or a fragment of dialogue. Maybe something will stick.

I published my 1st poem in '96 & short story in '97, so I've been doing this for a while. Something I've learned is when to allow myself to nope out & when to crack the top on the Irish stubborn & push through :) There are times you're not going to be productive & that's okay 💚

When I don't write for awhile- my brain doesn't shut up about it. So I'll be sitting there grading or parenting or whatever and my thoughts go to plot points and sticky areas in my manuscript until I can write them out.

I have an accountability writing group where essentially all we do is check in with updates. That helps, plus I spend a lot of time applying for and researching writing retreats. And sometimes I just need a break! #momswritersclub

T: I've had writing deadlines for most of my adult life - the deadlines keep me writing. Also I'm not happy when I'm not writing. M: It's just random for me - sometimes I get an idea, sometimes I yell at myself for not writing, sometimes I just think about writing & want to do it. #momswritersclub

Early on, I definitely only wrote when the “muse” or the mood was right. Now, I have enough deadlines that if it’s not one thing, it’s another. I thrive with external motivation, so it works for me! 😅 Finding time to write something new is the main problem now!

If I only wrote when the mood was right, I would probably never write. I do get that sense of inspiration - but it's usually midway through, when I've already made myself write/edit a few hundred words (actually it's much easier for me to sit down and edit),.

Yeah, I think you find what works for you, but I think *most* authors take forever on the first one, then learn discipline and it gets faster after that.

On some level it’s knowing that writing is the most accessible and accommodating way for me to earn a living so I gotta make it work.

But I think having my CPs around to nudge me forward and keep me accountable is probably the most helpful.

Writing is usually my happy place, so it's not normally hard for me to get to it. Unfortunately, the past few months have been hard (life being life) and I lost my drive. Thankfully things are getting better and I'm feeling that drive again.

I echo Sara and Tracy in their comment about having a certain feeling when writing. I would ask add reading really good writing is a great way to get me back to my desk, or kitchen table, or scribbled receipt from my purse🙃

Oh that's cool! It can inspire me too - at times. It can also depress me if I'm having trouble with my project. But in general I find reading good writing is energizing.

Actually any really good art can inspire me - theatre, music, visual art. Museums and theatre are great for inspiration for me when I feel I'm slogging (which is usually the first 1/3 of a book..)

My characters bring me back. If I've been working on a book for a while, I really get invested in the characters and want to finish their story. Usually, if I need extra motivation, I'll go back and read the last scene that I wrote. Or, I'll find my favourite scenes and read them.
