I remember talk by Norman Finkelstein on non-violence and ghandi, who he read virtually all the works of. An insane endeavor given he wrote 100 volumes, or 50,000+ pages of text.
I remember it largely because the things he said ran counter to my imagined idea of ghandi
That he believed it took an immense force of will to stare down a bayonet unarmed, knowing you may certainly die, and it is Not something most people are able to do
That what he truly abhorred was cowardice. Particularly the cowardice of those who use the tenets of nonviolence to justify inaction
