Still about half of countries restrict dual citizenship either for citizens who naturalize abroad or (mostly) for foreigners acquiring citizenship in a country.
In contrast, destination country regulations for immigrant naturalization are more restrictive, with acceptance of dual citizenship only in 56% of all dyads.
In 1960, only in 1.255 out of 7.745 directed origin-to-destination dyads (10%) was dual citizenship accepted for migrant naturalization.
In 2022, dual citizenship was accepted in 16.893 out of 38.220 dyads (39%).
