1) Continued investment in strengthening our health care system. It's not just about keeping people healthy - it's about the second and third order impacts on household income, education outcomes, family stability and savings. The foundation of strong economy is a healthy population.
2) Literacy - reading and writing are the gateways to knowledge and critical thought. The re-introduction of cursive writing and a continued emphasis on reading, public speaking and persuasive writing provide a foundation for respectful discourse and public engagement - pillars for democracy.
3) Math and philosophy - these two subjects go hand in hand, and are the foundation of a well developed ability to use logic and deductive reasoning to engage the world. They are the underpinnings of science, discovery and therefore curiosity; curiosity is the underpinning of understanding our world
Understanding is the foundation upon which empathy is built. If we see the world in a fashion that allows for the engagement with the "other," then we are more likely to consider the needs of the "other." This encourages better outcomes for all of us; the ultimate goal of a functioning society.
By combining the above components into a plan for improving the lives of their constituents, our politicians will be investing in the people of Canada, as well as in the outcomes for Canada. As we move into the next election cycle in our country, I hope to see these pillars front and centre.🤞
