yeah i think this is why i used to kin charas more than develop my own ocs it was easier to apply myself onto existing charas that i related to since i lacked both world experience and understanding of myself to make well rounded ocs/sonas

I definitely have also felt this!!! there are so many half-baked oc ideas that I set aside bc they didn't have staying power in my brain - but as I've gotten more comfortable with myself over the years the oc development has gotten easier (along with my creative energy coming back!!)

it also tracks that whenever I start feeling self-conscious about something, I struggle to make anything super creative even with permanent residents of my heart like cirina and cota!! it puts me back in the "maybe it would be easier to conform to expectations forever" mental funk!!

aw, im glad that youre able to break out of that a bit! cirina and cota are beloved creatures so its very important<3 for me its like... idk, if im in the wrong mindset an oc just feels completely alien to me and i cant continue with them anymore. like a body rejecting a transplant brains be crazy

but yeah I definitely get that... sometimes an oc just suddenly feels Wrong no matter how much you thought you were cooking w/ the original idea :(

i get this for sure!! i've been writing fanfiction for around 10 years, and that's where i started out in terms of writing actively. i had some original projects i wanted to start working on last year but it's proved difficult because i've struggled to find the voices of my original characters.

i think it's because a lot of the hard work has been done for me when it comes to canon characters. all i need to do is analyse them, and then it's pretty easy to figure out how they talk, or what seems out of character for them.

for sure! finding the voice of your own characters can be so difficult… especially when you feel like they all end up sounding like “you”. maybe its a perspective thing? and people who write the characters we analyze feel the same way— but its very daunting in the moment. im glad youre pursuing

original fiction regardless of any hesitation though! fanfic really opens up so many doors for creativity down the road whether you stick to it or not and thats what i love about using canon material :D

oh yeah i definitely get that!! i'm working on an original story written in a diary style and i'm so self-conscious that the character's voice is just mine, and that anyone who might read it won't be able to see the character.

y e s… i always come up with vague concepts/themes and create a guy for it, but find myself not feeling attached unless there’s something about them that Grabs my attention
i’ve ended up just keeping the concepts in my pocket and stuffing them into existing guys to encourage a stronger connection

im glad u get it… like part of it for me too is like. a design Really has to grab me and it has to be like ‘yes this is it this is right’ i always feel bad for abandoning my poor children but sometimes retirement feels better than forcing myself to love them ahfkajgk
