An executive council. All the members vote on issues and policy. Also safe guards, significant checks and balances, term limits, and strict ethical guidelines with strong enforcement.

South Korea had a Trump-esque situation recently, and they were able to handle it. Because they put safe guards in their system to ensure that they could easily remove any dictator wannabe or power hungry executive.

It’s really not as hard as it seems. The US just has an incredibly weak democracy, because we’ve never really had to deal with anything like this. We didn’t have to struggle that hard for our democracy, despite the war. Most of what we did was run away and cost the British money.

We never had an at home dictator, one that ruled from our lands. As harsh as King George III got, he never really did anything /that/ oppressive, beyond typical monarch stuff. Nothing like what Trump or other autocratic dictators do. The colonies were largely free to legislate themselves.

A lot of what pissed us off to the point of revolution was stuff that happened very soon before we revolted. It never actually got that bad here. So while we were very aware of tyranny, we weren’t as aware as many other democracies are. So we never implemented the necessary safe guards.
