My issue with Strange New Worlds is actually they often play things too safe with familiarity and fan service whereas I like that Discovery at least explored newer territory.

Yeah I can see some of that so far. I’m only 5 episodes into SNW and loved the last two, but it was definitely them paying homage to more familiar Trek territory.
