As an American I read the thread, but I'm not sure what these mean in the grand scheme of things. What are the issues with these? Why are people calling him a Tory?

Because he leans conservative (the Canadian/British term is Tory), a lot of his policies reflect Brian Mulroney’s who was our analogue to Reagan. Basically, the Conservatives were outflanked in the election because the Liberals shifted more to the right.

Eg. A Liberal government 20 years ago would preposing building public housing instead of just dumping money into and allying with the private market on good faith.

I'm not even sure if that is true of 20 years ago. I know Chretien's Liberals pulled away and leaned into Third Way Liberalism similar to Clinton's Democrats as well.

Ironically it opened my eyes to shift from conservative parties since LPC was actually what I wanted.
