we should be able to remove ourselves from starter packs, and we should also get a consent y/n notification when someone adds us to a pack in the first place.

One issue with being able to remove yourself from lists is that it would make block lists useless, opening up the site to the same kinds of harassment and extremists that people fled Twitter to get away from
True.
So I guess limit the removal to packs to follow.
Honestly, I haven't bothered looking into any of the pack things. I just presumed block lists and follow lists contain a script that allows for batch blocking or following.
So, block lists would be more restricted to modifying.
I'm not sure how lists work, because I think I'm subscribed to one to block those content farm bots that post pictures of cats and stuff, but if I check the accounts I've blocked, there's only the ones that I've manually blocked
Ideally, I think you should get a notification if you're added to one of those starter packs and be able to manually remove yourself from it. Or when people follow you, it should tell you the pack/list that they came from
Trolls and Bad Actors would love nothing more than to escape a BLOCKING Starter Pack. And I see no reason to *not* want to be in an Add Starter Pack, since Blocking is robust here. It's not like Starter Packs are created willy-nilly.
It's all good. Just hit the unfollow. I see what your saying tho. Eventually the starter packs I am a part of, I will weed out who I don't want to follow/or follow me.
I think you have misunderstood my point. A block list can be created by anyone simply by listing accounts. Yes, you have to choose to follow and block, but there is nothing to tell you you are on someone’s block list. If people don’t check properly you can unknowingly be blocked as an act of malice
Block lists would be pointless if people had to give permission to be added, or could remove themselves. A block list is data owned by the account that created it, so nobody else can change it.
But the data is publicly accessible, and tools like Clearsky will show any lists you are on.
Notification would be nice, even without y/n consent. It’d be good to know what lists I’m on and who placed me there, if I ever establish myself on this platform.
I don't use starter packs, but I believe they're a list of people that are related by some theme or context, so you can follow (or mute/block) them all at once.
So "if you like potatoes, here's a potato-growers/-lovers starter pack".
this is a feature of bluesky. it’s a decentralized platform, meaning my data is mine, and your data is yours, and none of it belongs to bluesky. so they literally do not have the power to stop anyone from adding anyone else to a list. It’s a good thing and prevents censorship

And removing from lists would be nice, too.

I'm also on three lists. Who knew. 🤷
starter packs and block lists will kill this platform and create another bluemaga hellscape but until then?
ur post will hopefully be seen and considered @bsky.app
and we mustnt riot every time we see palmerreport or muellershewrote in one from a large account
im too lazy to create one though i know exactly who everybody should follow.
I’m surprised BSky has not thought this through.
But the data is publicly accessible, and tools like Clearsky will show any lists you are on.
Thank you for letting me know about Clearsky, I didn’t know
My additional comment was to emphasize that we have choices, as users.
You need to go through them manually.
So "if you like potatoes, here's a potato-growers/-lovers starter pack".
I imagine subscribing to follow works(?) but I haven't tested it yet.
("Spuds", good name for them 😄)
If you like an account, you don't need starter packs.
