If Trump is serious (and who really knows), I think there are a few things to keep an eye out for:
1. Creating economic instability in the country to "soften us up" for annexation: tariffs, attacks on debt issuance, limiting correspondent banking relationships (think FATF action) and access to US$

This is new: “A source with direct knowledge of the discussions told NBC News that Trump is heavily focused on Canada in conversations with aides, who believe he is completely serious about making the country the 51st state—even with Trudeau out of power”

Hmmm. Almost as if inspired by lebensraum from Texas to the Arctic.

2. Mis/dis information about Canadian willingness to become the 51st state....This might involve using social media influencers, fake polls indicating support for a union, currying favour with friendly politicians and attacking politicians who don't support the idea.
3. Seizing resources (water, minerals, oil) to make Canada "less viable" as a country. (Related to 1). Think: re-negotiation of water treaties, prohibition on sales of resources, using national security to force access to resources, likely below market rates.
4. Threaten the security guarantee. If Canada can't defend itself, are we even a viable country? This might include prohibiting our use of US defence technology, tools, and systems.
5. Increasing US border, police, and military presence along the border and anywhere it already is (think: embassy and wherever US military personnel are). This will be blamed on protest activity.
6. Creating a fake crisis (probably something to do with migrants and Canada's inability to control our borders) that necessitates a US military presence in Canada to "defend our territory".
I'm not saying this is going to happen, but if it did, this is what I think it would look like. I don't see a full-scale invasion of Canada; I see the strategic deployment of military resources once the other parts of this type of plan are in place.
I do have a solution for this one. They can line as many border agents up along the US side as they want. They don’t have to enter Canada for that one
I do agree they’ll come up with some sort of “national security crisis”
You have Europe to protect you and Scotland and Ireland
Though it might endanger US citizens, malignant narcissist Trump would use bioweapons against Canada to acquire raw resources for extraction.

He learned criminal coercion from NY mobs.
Rats in restaurant basements, bedbugs into hotels, dead pigs in farmers' wells.

PotUS 47 has no moral compass.
My concern about this is the potential for a Gulf of Tonkin type of event. Or maybe an incursion in the arctic by Russia that the US then uses as an excuse to push a US military intervention to “protect” us.
Canada provide USA with oil gas and electric so USA are feeling it and Canada can trade with other with this resource Canada do not need to worry
It seems that #1 & #2 are underway. Fox host "personally offended" that Canadians find the idea of becoming the 51st state "repugnant". Kevin O'Leary being Kevin O'Leary.
I agree. I think the question is .... do we move further down the list? There are other explanations for 1 & 2.
#5 My eyes are Panama - it's reported that plans are underway to increase US troop presence there.
#6 The fake fentanyl crisis, Navarro claiming Canada has been taken over by cartels
This part is what Russia heavily uses in the world prior to military action. This part is happening now in Canada. Look at the convoy a couple years back and who funded it. That was not a grassroots movement. It doesn't help that a lot of our media is US owned.
F*** this. We will not be moved.

If nobody around him knows where this is suddenly coming from, you can bet it was a phone call with Putin.
I think this is all correct, and all terrifying. The disinformation part in particular panics me. I’m not sure our government is up to the challenge.
Yeah.
And eventually keep his promise of “no more elections” 🤮
Trump is not working with a full deck. 🇨🇦 will be fine.
How is the 124% GDP debt in the US under Trump?
Canada holds steady at 2% .
Wait for the collapse under orange shitgibbon.

I'll just leave this here. In the absence of civil defense policy and with my background I prepared this last week.

The attached pdf is for Canadians preparing to resist US invasion. I'm retired RCMP and Canadian Army Reservist. French copy to be posted too.

I am quite happy our PM is headed to Europe to strengthen out ties and trade there.
Oh for sure. He's completely serious. These tariffs are like an attempt to shut off the electricity before you send your troops in. And Hegseth will be all in. They will paint us as drug addled neo-nazis, and make the same kind of allegations that Putin did to justify the invasion of Ukraine.
I find it fascinating that you would ask "who really knows." Trump has a long history of using what normal people would call outrageous statements as probes or trial balloons. If he gets pushback, it was a joke. If he doesn't, he pushes farther until his outrageous statement is treated as normal.
Canadian politicians have never made a serious effort to reduce the country’s dependence on the U.S. Instead, they’ve gone out of their way to strengthen ties.

A recent poll shows that 90% of Canadians do not want to join the US.
