So I've decided I'm officially giving up after 6 months of unemployment. It's liberating. Art is something very personal to me and I don't need the social validation that art is what I do for a living. I thought working in a videogame would be cool but screw that, it's too much work and it's not my dream anyway. My dream is here. I want to keep the energy to draw my little stories, even if it's just one single person that appreciates them. For that single person I want to draw.

So I've completely let go of the idea that passion = money source. Yuck. I've been thinking what to do and I think I'll make web development my career because I really like making websites haha and it's definitely a healthier industry than 3D (and one in which there's actually job listings).

This is such a valuable realization! Sometimes stopping a pursuit opens up the space for something much more fulfilling. When artists internalize the idea that their work is worthy only when it's their income, they internalize capitalism. The main thing is whether art is fun & fulfilling to you 💓

This is very true and such a concise way to put it, I now feel silly for feeling so hopeless at not being able to get a job when it's the industry that's falling apart c': And as you say, this is but an opportunity for a more fulfilling path

Exactly! It's not your fault for feeling this way. If we shouldn't equate our worth with our jobs, the same should apply for artists as well. I know so many cases where it lead to burnout.
