Yes, he's Scottish and very much so, it's a big part of his writing. I've also read "Poor Things" and "1982, Janine" and they're all absolutely terrific. He hits a perfect spot for me, his writing is weird and inventive but also entertaining and very easy to like.

The whole chosen family thing never seemed quite right to me. I feel like we need something more than that for people who are isolated from community or not good at seeking out new people. Hence the loneliness epidemic.
Looks like an interesting book.

yes! the author critiques chosen family for the fact that you must be "chosen" and therefore it's quite conditional. They are more behind building relationships around activism and revolutionary praxis
