There’s some of this in @beckyannison.bsky.social’s Wreck This Deck. It’s a solo game that allows for in-game interaction with other players (indirectly through in-character forums and advice requests, or directly by exchanging cards). There are a few communities doing this on discord/Facebook.

I guess the real trick is getting buy-in from a sufficient player base to make the thing actually work as intended. Kind of a lightning in a bottle problem, though.

I'd love to understand this better. I get the solo games aspect, but are you proposing the equivalent of a central, social hub, or a publicly generated lore?

Is this a dev-generated thing, like the planets in Helldivers 2, or a community made thing, like hacks for BitD, or Skyrim mods?

It's a community-made thing. HyperCity had you create your own cities, but you could additionally post to SeekerNet (probably a shared Discord or website or I guess even on social media with hashtags) and ask other players who were playing their own cities and get their answers to link to your city

Yeah I was thinking have month long events you could just post to an itch page as a forum topic. If you start a game this month you get a bonus, fire sale in the shop, the king is dead, etc.
