Okay, I re-did the font comparison chart WITH SAMPLES and added some more. My old favorite font, Joanna, has been resurrected, and oh look! It's one of the ones that uses the least number of pages, but is clean and readable, not too dense.

A late challenger has entered the fray! Finally looked up what font I used in layout for Magic University, and it was Perpetua! So I tried it, and the page count shrank all the way to 336. Perpetua *looks* a little smaller, so maybe it would only really be comparable to 10.5 point of the others...?
Interestingly, in the Magic University books, what I ended up doing with Perpetua was trying it out at 12 pt, 12.5, and 13 pt. And the difference in page count between 12 and 12.5 was negligible. So I stuck with 12.5 and slightly generous leading. Hm. Time to print some sample pages.

While I love the classics, type design is as prolific, diverse and excellent as ever.
This is the only way I can not lose them. 🫠
