While I'd love to see a proper Toronto museum, but $225 million 😬. The space should lean into TOs strength. Not sure it's our history.

Now food! If we could pull off something like a "Museum of Global Culinary History." Something unique + collaborative. Bring BIAs, colleges, and hoods together.

Personally thinking something more global, "food over time," (borrowing, adapting, connecting) and a quartely splash of celebrity chefs to draw in folks, but looks intriguing!

Other thought was a "Museum of Empire. This city was obsessed with Empire for 200 year. People love the Empire Podcast. Could weave in the city's history and take a critical look at Empires, which fought over this land for centuries. Also an excuse to get the building all dressed up again.

My general point is if we want that $100 million philanthropist, maybe the approach needs to be more global, with opportunities to weave in the Toronto story. A museum that tells a big story that Toronto is well positioned to tell, like food, or Empire, and I'm sure many others.

I feel like there are lots of archives in the city that could include parts of their holdings…I suspect the best way to proceed is room by room, maybe 10m$ at a time…setup an org, get volunteers, get corporate sponsors….and occasional funding from all three levels of gov…

We don't have those here. Unless they can put their names on a hospital/college (for a fraction of what the the public pays!), they couldn't care less. The executive class in this city (& nation/prov) are mostly witless. They don't care about making a better place (sorry this stuff making me vent-y)

The last time we had that was David Thomson gifting his art collection (and model ships) to an expanded AGO. Mostly a blessing, but it left the AGO with little space to show its permanent non-Thomson Canadian collection.

Even the most benevolent benefactor of a Museum of Toronto would be leaving their pronounced mark on the place. It’d be better to have it fully publicly funded, IMO.

Agreed. It would be much better as a fully-public space. (I have no desire to have a Ripley's Aquarium version of a TO Museum.) But our governance is also littered with no-vision officials (and sadly, a low-morale public work force...something like this could really re-invigorate them).
