and that year, april fool’s day happened to land on a friday. so, my mom, with her twisted sense of humor, loaded me and my sister into the car, then turned around to us, and with the most somber voice and expression said “guys… dairy queen burned down”

When my brother and I were little our family went hiking up a mountain trail and when I started complaining I was tired my dad said there was ice cream at the top of the mountain to keep us going. When we got to the top he just laughed at us for believing him. He never did buy us that ice cream.
