Cause most of the republicans in office only want power and this is their power being taken from them so they become useless. No more free checks for them.

“Power” to them isn’t actually having the power to do anything. They’d be perfectly happy with virtual lifetime appointments, money to keep them happy, and no real responsibilities or duties.
