I also think that’s an honestly good message. Moore didn’t opt for some trusty biopic of a famous figure. She went into a full body horror film that wasn’t supposed to be an Oscar contender, and look where she is now.

But this is now the default. A variation of this narrative is in play for all of the front-runners; the same for 3/4 of last year's winners, and infamously true of all 4 the year before. A lack of oscar-worthy work is now valued as a great strength. Its sad, its classless, its disrespectful.

It worked for Brendan Fraser. Granted, he was taken more seriously for a period than Moore and got some meatier parts but there was still this sense of the Comeback showing that he was more than what he'd been defined by at his commercial peak.
