Even worse are those analysts who welcomed the 7th of October as expanding the "imaginary for possibilities of both resistance and collective freedom". Carried away by images of destroyed border fences, they ignored both the nature of the attack and its totally predictable consequence.

Perhaps the 7th of Oct would eventually bring Palestinian liberation. But it is also entirely possible that it would herald the escalating genocide of Palestinians resulting in their near disappearance from the land between the river and the sea.

Because it was much more than a terrorist attack. It was a carefully planned and executed military effort, of a divisional scale. About twenty inhabitations were occupied fully or in part. It was the deadliest day in terms of military and civilians casualties ever.

It exposed the Israeli military as an empty shell, unable to meet its most basic duties. And it triggered pogrom metaphors that are always present in Jewish Israeli consciousness. A sense of helplessness and the rage and hysteria that comes with it.

I’ve said this before but back when it was popular to chant “liberation is rarely bloodless” as a justification for 7 Oct I was just… I don’t think you know what you’re saying or whose blood is going to be shed the most here.

A disaster for innocent Palestinians, yes. But has it been a disaster for Hamas? Seems like most of the world doesn't care about Oct. 7.
