In 1948-49, upon being declared a fugitive by Chilean President Videla, Pablo Neruda hid 6 months at 14 Cervantes, Lecheros Hill, Valparaiso. He wrote much of Canto General here, including: I declare you my love Valparaiso/ and I will return to inhabit your crossroads/ when you and I are free again.
