I'll start - I heard recently about a group of parents who block off the streets near a school once a week so that kids can ride their bikes to the school. They call it the bike bus.
Bike bus is amazing! Coach Balto has been leading them in Portland for a few years and it's so heartwarming to see. He spent much of this last summer doing interviews around the country iirc https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8LrYJKn/
I was just telling my partner last night that I want to read your book to help me explain why getting kids cycling is a perfect example of multi-solving. I've been doing a bike bus for the past year and a half!
I continue my 40 years effort of restoring oak savanna on two farms in northwest Missouri. I drive my donkeys to do my recycling. We invite urban young people to help on our farms.
I gave one of my farms, a 40 acre hill farm, to a young woman who farms it with mules, & helps our work.
I spend as much time as possible teaching young people the skills I have acquired over 40 years of learning low energy land restoration methods.
I add vegetable matter to my eroded fields to begin topsoil aggregation.
I drive donkeys to daycare and hospice centers. https://youtu.be/sAIHNhPDDQc?si=2U5V4d4ttLhQxeRh
We have an active group in my town working on making sure municipal and school buildings install solar. It has been a hard road, and we hope to get something started after 8 years of tireless advocacy.
In Portland we have the shift calendar for group bike rides. During the summer there were dozens of group rides every week, sometimes with hundreds of us in attendance. Several climate justice orgs did group rides, including a tree canopy survey 🌲🌳
I also hope to organize guest speakers to come to our community focusing how we can prepare for the future and be more resilient. A major issue will be road maintenance.
I’m trying to drum up support for establishing a community orchard in my town that will focus on diverse tree crops. Trees that will do well with our warming climate.
My community is also rebuilding our village store that burnt to the ground four years ago. I’m not playing a direct role in this but it’s a great project that is bringing many people together in our town.
Garden. Raise backyard chickens. Plant as many fruit trees as you can fit on your property. Surprise your neighbors with regular drops of home-grown food, and make it clear to them that they’re welcome to come pick it themselves.
We’re buying up some property this next year & I’ve had my eye on raintree for years now! I’m sure other orgs do it as well but I’ve heard great things about these guys.
Putting a 'tool share' list together with some of my neighbors! Why do I need to buy all the things I'll use once or twice? Why does every single household need to have so many unused things?

Good neighbors will have a tiller and chainsaw, a hot tub, boat, and in ground pool.
I have none of these things, of course.
