We dont need to be EU members for that just members of the single market and customs union ( FoM comes with those its a compulsory package deal ) we then have dynamic alignment just very *little say on the regs.
* cont.
Countries like Norway align with regs and are allowed to make suggestions but the EU decides if you are not an EU member you can get full free trade but only EU members decide the rules.
That's a really good,clear, explanation of the difficulties trading with the EU because of Brexit. This was never fully explained of course at the time!
Explaining most of that to the average British punter would have been a PhD/Masters exercise in condensing it down to 5 salient points of a single sentence each, or even simplifying it further into memes for social media, ie too difficult, therefore ignored.

Ultimately when EU members a 100% of UK produce, from a jar of homemade Jam to an Aircraft wing
If it was legal to sell in the UK, it was legal to sell in Europe - with zero paperwork

I can't wait to have this argument tbh
But it also doesn't get round the issues re being in a different customs regime - that still requires paperwork / cost for compliance
