Just had coworkers whose spouses are affected discussing this today. They’re scrambling as well. Knowing they’re fans of sarcasm, I told them; “Just stay home and have more babies. That’ll solve everything.” We all laughed, but a little nervously.

So, they should have paid for childcare starting last year in case he won, so as to avoid the impossibility of finding midyear childcare spots. Which would have meant commuting to drop the kids off then returning home to work and paying $$$$$$ DC childcare costs when they didn't need to. Hmmmm.

“They should’ve planned accordingly” is rude. You might as well have said “How sad for them. Thoughts and prayers.”
You can’t just have childcare on speed dial. It’s not the way it works. You can’t tell a daycare to hold a space open for your kid “just in case”.

It does when your kids are elementary school aged. Telework is perfect for being there when they get home. Being in an office until 5, with an hour commute after requires hours of childcare that telework doesn’t.

I suppose it depends on the nature of the work and the individual. I was able to work full time from home raising 2 under 4. I concede that I am very fortunate to work for a boss who doesn't care when I work, as long as I get everything done by deadlines.

It absolutely does. My kids are school-age. I am able to drop them off and pick them up. I am available if the school nurse calls, I can take a couple hours off to go to class parties or appointments. When my kids are home, I am working, but I am here.

This in particular bothers me b/c Jodi Enrst & the Administration keep saying only 6% of us are in the office which is not true - according to the govts own data. Why lie about this? Why attack us?
