Yeah it really disturbs me how quickly people have rushed to talk about how sympathetic and good the various people who have been detained and deported are. It doesn’t matter!!! They deserve basic rights regardless.

I hate it so much. Just complete uncritical acceptance of the fascist framing that human rights are a meritocratic perk earned through good behavior, so that our sovereignty is something temporarily leant out to us by our rulers, who are thus the real sovereigns. It's the other way around!

If one believes in the justice system, the only presumption one is able to have is all two hundred+ have not been found to be guilty of anything, no probable cause has been presented to the courts, etc. they should ALL be released from that El Salvadoran torture prison.

Dating back to John Adams defending the British soldiers from the Boston Massacre, we have had a LONG tradition of giving ALL of our rights to people IN the country, irregardless of nationality and citizenship status. Something Washington backed, even if it wasn't always liked by all the Founders.

Then, the mid-to-late 19th Century started a new trend. One of exclusion. Deny this and other rights based on otherness.
