I love the idea of octopodes (my favourite plural) riding around on dolphins. I often imagine dolphins choosing to keep them as, not pets, but friends, useful for their eight clever minions.
Yes! I have thought hard about how to incorporate dolphins into my story—I think of them as sovereign from the octopuses, and decided the city shown here is too hierarchical to live harmoniously with such intelligent animals.
