Yes, but we need to spend that 2% in Canada or anywhere other than the US, until we can keep a good portion of the production, in house. The US gets 80% of our military spending, no wonder they think we should spend 5%.
Unfortunately, all political parties have cut military spending over the last 50 years in favour of social spending to gain votes. As a result, we are no longer able to defend ourselves. There is nothing that we could possibly do (militarily at least) to "protect us from Trump".
