Honestly? I wouldn’t aim for Canada. If Orange McTinyHands sticks to his promise to “expand the American Footprint” and he follows through with making Canada the 51st state, you’re now looking down the barrel of a gun AND evading the people who want you dead for existing.
Depending on how this goes, it might be a good idea to use Canada as a point. Cross the border then use Canadian Airlines to escape out of North America and seek refuge somewhere else (most likely Europe but we’ll have to see) and hope Musk’s VP doesn’t direct his attention there.
People really need to make a difference between the real very concrete horrible stuff that Trump is definitely gonna do and the ludicrous things he just says to distract everyone and maintain his character.
Like... it's really important to make the difference, and fight against the first.
That’s the thing though isn’t it? What is real and what isn’t? He’s an authoritarian dictator in all but name now and everyone has made it clear no one in the government is going to stop him. There are things he’ll definitely do but dictators are fickle, they change what they want on a dime.
I'd be less concerned about a trump invasion and more concerned about the fact the liberals in Canada are making the same mistake as liberals in the US.
Being spineless and not giving their base what they want and subsequently losing their election
Either or, Canada may not be the safe haven it should be. You got to think ahead with these sorts of things, especially with a country with as much soft power as the US.
You can’t let your guard down for anything, if he says he wants to invade any sovereign nation, whether it’s the soft invasion of Mexico or annexing Canada, he could do it if he feels bold enough.
That won't happen through war. That will happen the same as russia did to the states- disinformation and putting lackeys in power. In our case, it's Pierre Poilievre aka little trump. He takes over in our elections, He'll hand pretty much everything over to the highest bidder.
I’ve said it before countless other times to other people and brought it up myself, it’s not about the invasion, whether hard or soft, it’s about staying ahead of Trump and Elon. As long as they are in power, no country that is even close to the US both geographically or politically is not safe.
You think Trump or his party aren’t aware that millions will try to leave the second any rights for anyone are being stomped out? If you thought of that, his party have thought of that too. The only way to survive this is to be 5 steps ahead, it’s never as simple as “go here and you’re safe” -
This isn’t anyone under Nazi oppression escaping the Holocaust by taking a boat to the US, the Information Age has made the world more interconnected than ever, for better or worse, and you have to realize that.
I'm not disagreeing with you, just pointing out if/when it happens it probably won't be tanks and armies crossing borders, it will be done at the political level as was done to the states.
I've been looking into DIY just in case. I don't have the ability to just flee, I'm disabled and have no where to go. But I can survive and be the real me in spite of it all.
Just with Canada you gotta be careful where you go - Alberta is a red zone (run by a Republican wannabe), BC is relatively safe, Manitoba might be. Ontario is run by a ex-drug dealer who loves Trump but loves power most and knows if he goes too far right he will lose.
I concur. I live in Manitoba and it's not terrible here, people are pretty friendly overall, but you'd probably want to stick to Brandon or Winnipeg. Some of the smaller communities are a bit backwards though (Looking at you Steinbach).
That said, I don't have much (the little money I have is spent fixing stray cats lol) but I can offer a mattress and a warm spot to crash if someone really needs it as a staging point. (As long as you don't mind cat hair on everything.)
I sincerely hope it will never be needed, but my door is always open for someone in need and will never be locked. (seriously, I haven't locked the doors to my house in probably 5 years now lol! One of the bonuses to living up here.)
Excellent point - I never fear leaving the door unlocked. I only lock it because the door has a bad habit of blowing open with a strong wind otherwise and it is 20 below today.
I'm looking into a job transfer, I'll take whichever spot will take me but the current openings are in Kingston, Ottawa, and Winnipeg. Any recommendations?
The order you listed them is the order I think they are for safety. Ottawa tends to be quite liberal but also has had trouble with right wing protests. Winnipeg is super cold and has heavy anti-native racism last I knew. Best to do searches on the cities for hate crimes to get a good feel.

Again regardless, don’t look to Canada, the country on America’s border, for safety.
