I get that but the issue here is that you’re putting the onus on the average person when time after time we’ve seen that the average person isn’t very bright and will fall for it.

I think using the domain as the primary verification method is perfectly fine provided they have a white list for certain notable figures / companies and outright reject special characters in domains on the platform. If you need a domain with special characters it has to go through manual review

Hmm... maybe posting a score from some domain authority source (Maybe SEOMoz's Domain Authority??)

Something that folks can't edit, but that displays prominently on everyone's profile page based on whatever domain they're using.

I guess the point is to extract Bsky admins from a lot of vetting.

In general I think it's easy enough to check the validity of an account for anything that matters.

It's very much like the problem that browsers have with domains. There was some attempt to solve this with Extended Validation SSL certificates and that did not go well (and is no longer really a thing).

I suppose they can always add some additional checks like this client-side (also third-party apps could do that even now)
